Jane Madgwick, Executive Director, the Global Commons Alliance attended the week of dialogues as well as the Ceremony, as part of the Protect & Restore Nature Expert Advisory Panel – a diverse group of reputed experts from around the world that played a key role in selecting finalists. She said: “The Earthshot Prize ceremony is flowing with defiant optimism and abundant examples of real innovation and action. The ideas brought joy to us all, especially to young African entrepreneurs and young people across the world. This is exactly the different kind of thinking and collaboration we need to safeguard the global commons.
“We could all learn from the ‘ABCs’ of the Earthshot Prize: A for accelerated action, B for building ground-up, and C for concrete accountability. That is where the Global Commons Alliance comes in. Through connecting individual actions for nature’s recovery across societies and economies, we can create systemic solutions that will ensure a safe and just future for people and planet.”
Wode Maya, Ghanaian Vlogger and engineer explained that the Earthshot is an opportunity to “turn your passion into a profession, leading to impact and income”. The Earthshot Prize announced earlier this week that the support galvanised for its alumni has reached £86 million in value, highlighting its ability to accelerate innovative solutions to safeguard the global commons.
During the Award ceremony, Earthshot Prize’s Founder and President, Prince William participated in a panel moderated by Prize Council Member, Wanjira Mathai. He underlined his belief in the power of youth to transform our world for the better and pledged more support to nurture young talent.
