Sustainability leads to security: Building Bridges Summit in Geneva

01/10/2025

This week the Building Bridges 2025 Summit is taking place in Geneva, bringing together finance, corporate and political leaders to leverage Switzerland’s unique ecosystem to accelerate the transition to a sustainable global economy.

Keynote speaker Swiss Confederation Federal Councillor Martin Pfister framed the debate by stressing the international stability brought by safeguarding our global commons: “Sustainability leads to resilience. Resilience leads to security. Security leads to prosperity. [..] Those who act sustainably, whether as a country or company, are more resilient in times of crisis.”

Also speaking at the opening plenary, State Councillor Delphine Bachmann for Geneva Canton reiterated the crucial importance of collaboration to accelerate systems change: “It is only together that we can accelerate the transition to an economy that respects the limits of our planet. Only together will we be able to join forces to meet the challenges of the century. Only together will we be able to build the solutions on which our common future depends.”

Margarita Astralaga, Co-chair, the Global Commons Alliance, who attended several events at the Summit said: “The sessions in Geneva this week underscore that the transition to a better, more secure and sustainable future is accelerating. From nature finance moving from theory to investments, to new ways of de-risking finance in emerging markets, the movement is underway.

“But the path ahead remains unpredictable. It is only by collaborating with new sectors, regions and voices that we will build bridges that everyone can cross – to reach a just world, on a safe planet.”

Organized by the Building Bridges Foundation on behalf of its Founding Partners, the Summit is a launchpad for global investment ideas, alliances, and partnerships, and takes place from September 30 to October 2 2025.
