The Planetary Health Summit 2024 (PHAM) and 6th Annual Meeting takes place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 16-19 April.
The Global Commons Alliance is hosting events as well as taking part in sessions across the Summit, and driving collaboration between the health and environmental communities.
Convening scientists, policymakers, educators, youth leaders, businesses and citizens, the global Summit seeks solutions for the challenges facing humanity, and provides tools and drivers to support systemic change.
Led by the Sunway Centre for Planetary Health at Sunway University, PHAM 2024 is the first of its kind to be held in Southeast Asia.
Science into action
On April 17 at 15:50-17.30, the Global Commons Alliance and the Earth Commission will host the panel discussion: Turning Planetary Health and Earth System Science into Beneficial Action.
The global commons – the interconnected systems that support all life on Earth – are in crisis. The Safe and Just Earth System Boundaries were conceived to help guide cities and companies safeguard the global commons.
But for science to be transformational, it must inform action and be communicated in ways that the public can understand, and decision-makers can act upon.
This dynamic session brings together highly esteemed Earth system scientists, health professionals and environmental practitioners to explore the interface between human health and Earth system science through stories from the ground and learnings from community-led initiatives.
Keynotes speakers will address the priorities for silo-busting across science, policies and practices in order to mobilize Safe and Just transformations, and enable collective action between the health and environment sectors.
They will also provide insights to inform and accelerate policy and civil society implementation, and show how integrated action on planetary and human health can inspire all actors to move toward a Safe and Just future.
This event is open and registration is not required. For those unable to attend, we will share a written summary of event highlights.
