The strength of the Alliance lies in its diversity and complementary strengths – from scientific research and policy advocacy to cultural transformation and business engagement. Each member brings unique expertise and perspectives, connecting a powerful ecosystem where collaboration amplifies impact and accelerates the systems change our planet desperately needs.
Kate Goldman-Toomey, Executive Director of Partnerships, Open Planet Group, said: “As a new member of the GCA, Open Planet looks forward to contributing storytelling and filmmaking expertise, along with an open-source library of world-class content on the changing planet. Combined with the GCA members’ strengths in political advocacy, business engagement, science, and more, this collaboration has the potential to create an impact far greater than the sum of its parts.”
Gary Baker, CEO, IAIA, said: “The International Association for Impact Assessment is excited to join the Global Commons Alliance. We are looking forward to working with members across science, policy and the economy to ensure our work in developing the practice of impact assessment integrates the latest science and evidence-based solutions to progress a safe and just future.”
Lucy Stone, Founder, Executive Director, Climate Spring, said: “Culture is the missing key to systems change. The stories we tell reflect how we understand the climate and nature crisis, our place in the global commons and what we believe is possible. At Climate Spring we empower creators across film, TV and popular culture, to help us unlock the imagination and the agency needed to build a better future for all.”
Collective impact
Supported by a Secretariat, members will access benefits that can elevate collective impact. The Alliance:
- Synchronizes knowledge by facilitating shared analysis and strategies that harness collective wisdom.
- Amplifies impact by coordinating insights and cross-sector initiatives.
- Convenes, establishing trust and collaboration that can accelerate the wider movement.
- Optimizes mutual and collective potential by empowering members to contribute unique expertise toward a shared mission.
To drive systems change for a just world on a safe planet, we need coordinated action across issues, sectors and geographies. That’s why we invite organizations from around the world that are playing a role in this mission to join us in accelerating progress.
Together, we’re not just responding to the crisis – we’re actively building the Safe and Just world we know is possible. The Global Commons Alliance stands ready to connect organizations around this common purpose. A just world on a safe planet is not just hopeful, but inevitable. For all people, now.
