Navigating global turbulence for energy security and climate action

Dear Planetary Steward,

As geopolitical tensions continue to ripple through global markets, the fragility of our fossil fuel-dependent world becomes increasingly apparent. Conflicts disrupt supply chains, drive volatility, and exact both environmental and human costs. They remind us yet again that true security lies not in fossil fuels, but in clean energy and the safeguarding and governance of our global commons.

Amid these challenges, the climate community continues to build this security. This week, Bangkok hosts the 64th IPCC Session. Navigating a pivotal period following Thailand’s elections, these discussions serve as a crucial platform for building climate security as the new government is tasked with balancing significant vulnerability to climate change, including flooding, drought and severe urban heat risks in Bangkok.

To help navigate the complex landscape of multilateral events and sectoral summits, we have launched a new Global Commons Alliance global calendar. This is your hub for mission-aligned events, partner activities, and collaborative opportunities. This calendar will help us strengthen our collective impact. If GCA members have an event to share or will be at an event and are keen to collaborate, we encourage you to connect with us. One such event is Villars Summit next week, which is an opportunity to engage directly with GCA members and allies. If you’re there, we’d love to hear about your work and explore potential collaborations in person.

As we move through ever more turbulent times, our collective commitment to safeguarding the global commons remains our most powerful tool. Together, we can build the resilient, equitable, secure future our planet demands.

With all our best,
Will Tucker, Co-Director (Communications and Resource Mobilization)
Sebastian Schienle, Co-Director (Partnerships and Programs)
