The Global Commons Alliance is delighted to announce the appointment of Sebastian Schienle as Advocacy Director, who joined the Alliance in January 2025.
Sebastian brings broad experience from across the private and philanthropic sectors, including as Founder and Head of Research for Effektiv Spenden, an effective giving platform and advisory in Germany, and at McKinsey & Company’s Sustainability Practice, Benckiser Foundation and JDE Peet’s, amongst others.
In his new role, Sebastian will work with the Global Commons Alliance leadership team to implement advocacy strategies alongside partners during key political moments and events, to achieve our strategic goals.
Sebastian said: “It’s a pleasure to be supporting the Alliance and working with such a strong and ambitious team on this critical work, during a time of great change globally. I look forward to working together with business, finance, policy and civil society leaders on accelerating just and inclusive systems change to safeguard the global commons, no matter the obstacles in our path.”
Jane Madgwick, Executive Director, Global Commons Alliance said: “We’re so pleased that Sebastian has joined the team. Our Strategy 2030 demands that we convene and extend our Alliance partnerships to enable greater traction in terms of policy and governance shifts for the global commons. Sebastian will help us to shape and drive this work. He brings a wealth of experience in the field of climate, sustainable trade and development and skills in leading cross-sector collaboration that drive impactful and equitable change.”
“The Alliance is experiencing a surge of networks and organizations who are calling for a more holistic effort to safeguard a diverse, secure planet in which people can thrive with nature. This year we intend to nurture this convergence and enable real action, and that means advocacy must become a key pillar of our work.
“As we move ahead with our new strategy, we look forward to continuing working with brilliant colleagues and allies to mobilize citizens, companies, cities and countries to accelerate systems change, and become better guardians of the global commons.”
