Dear Planetary Steward, dear friend of the Global Commons Alliance,

All paths now lead to Belém. In two weeks organizations will head to Brazil for the 30th UN Climate Change Conference (COP30), not as separate actors, but as one community united by a shared purpose: to safeguard and restore Earth’s life-support systems, equitably, now.

The Global Commons Alliance, partners and members – including Earth4AllEarth Commission, Future Earth, Nature Positive Initiative, Systems Change Lab and many more – will be at COP30 to bring together civil society, philanthropy, business networks, and science around this shared mission.

World leaders at COP30 will be negotiating climate action at this critical halfway point to 2030, which is the deadline for nations to meet their Paris Agreement climate pledges. This year the summit will also be focused on adaptation finance, Indigenous stewardship, and nature-based solutions, particularly in the Amazon.

The months leading up to COP30 have been marked by growing recognition that safeguarding the global commons is not a niche issue — it is the foundation for achieving the Paris Agreement and the Global Biodiversity Framework. Belém is a major opportunity to forge and showcase partnerships that transcend boundaries to achieve such a vision.

In our newsletter you will find a listing of key COP30 events from across the community, which spotlight nature and climate action in science, business, policy, and civil society. From seminal Earth system science to momentum building around accountability in the private sector — our ecosystem is mobilizing systems change with urgency and purpose. These events and many more prove that regional networks and diverse voices are shaping a more inclusive and effective pathway to planetary stewardship.

Through each one of these initiatives, coalitions and moments, we all triumph. In our roles at the Alliance, we see firsthand how collaboration can unlock transformative impact. As we prepare for COP30, we reiterate: the science is clear. The pathways are known. What remains is to work together to turn the upcoming promises from the Amazon into an undeniable catalyst for global transformation.

Thank you for being part of the Global Commons Alliance. It’s only together that we can play our part to secure a just world, on a safe planet.

With all our best,
Sebastian Schienle, Director of Partnerships and Programs
Will Tucker, Director of Communications and Resource Mobilization
