A COLLECTIVE OPPORTUNITY FOR THE ALLIANCE

To ensure a thriving planet and thriving societies, we must ensure equitable and sustainable international stewardship of our vital earth systems.

The global commons, the interconnected natural systems that we all depend on, are in crisis due to human behavior. Earth’s systems, from our climate to the nutrient cycles and freshwater, are being exploited beyond sustainable safe thresholds and are at risk of irreversible damage caused by ‘tipping points’ which we are dangerously close to triggering. Global mismanagement of these global commons has also led to an unfair access to their benefits, leaving billions of people in poverty.

We currently face a challenging external environment on multiple fronts, but we see the disruption in trade, political and international norms as an opportunity to inspire and generate a different course for our shared futures; a future in which humanity and nature can thrive.

The world needs a participatory Alliance which fosters community, alignment and collective action to stimulate governance and action to protect the global commons. Using our broad relationships, we are taking this as an opportunity to talk to partners, funders, leading systems thinkers, and scientists about how we can best fulfil our mission.

If you would like to join us in our efforts and have a conversation,  please reach out to Sebastian Schienle, Director of Partnerships and Programs, who’s looking at how the Alliance can engage with a wider set of partners to drive forward coordinated action, or Will Tucker, Director of Communications and Resource Mobilization, looking at to increasing philanthropic support for the movement.
