What is common to us all?

Whoever we are, wherever we are, we all share something in common.

Earth’s interconnected systems—like the ocean, climate, rainforests, freshwater, and nutrient cycles—keep the planet stable and make a just world possible.

The global commons are our shared inheritance and responsibility.

What we do

Guided by science, the membership of the Global Commons Alliance accelerates systemic transformation across culture, governance and the economy:

Culture

We build cultures across societies that value stewardship for a just world on a safe planet.

Home

Governance

We support integration of Earth system justice into new governance, policy & legal frameworks.

Economy

We work to align economic & financial systems with safeguarding of the global commons.

Translating Safe and Just Science

All of our work is guided by science. We translate and operationalize Safe and Just boundaries and related scientific concepts for lay audiences and build ‘ commons literacy ’ among key stakeholders so they understand and apply Earth system boundaries, Earth system justice, and related concepts in different contexts.
