THE CGA AT COP31

The Global Commons Alliance partners and members will be in Antlaya, Türkiye for the 31st UN Climate Change Conference (COP31), November 9-20, 2026.

Hosted by Türkiye, with Australia leading the negotiations, COP31 has been framed as an “Implementation COP”: a moment to turn climate commitments into measurable progress. Coming just after the UN biodiversity talks in Yerevan, COP31 is also a chance to treat climate and nature as the single, interconnected system they are.

10am-11am Common Ground: Youth and Business Holding the Line on Climate Ambition

Location: WMB Board room – Delegation Offices, Blue Zone, Zone C3, Office: D034

Climate policy is being rolled back in places where it once looked secure, on both sides of the Atlantic. Companies that invested in decarbonisation are facing policy uncertainty and an anti-ESG backlash, while young activists are losing civic space and institutional allies. Neither can hold the line alone. Jóvenes por el Clima Argentina (JOCA) is bringing young climate leaders from Latin America and Europe to the same table as senior European business leaders for a 60-minute roundtable built for dialogue, not speeches. Together we’ll name what’s at stake, share alliances that have worked under hostile politics, and agree on joint commitments that will feed a statement released at COP31 and a follow-up dialogue through COP32.

10.30am-11am The Climate Diplomats of the Future Member event

Organizers: Earth4All

This session will address how the success of climate diplomacy depends on a wider constellation of new leadership, public trust and organised support. COP negotiations have always been convened between Member States, but the process has been increasingly shaped by vested corporate interests. The purpose of the session is not simply to bring more voices into the room but to cultivate a new generation of diplomats who can tap into new constituencies, knowledge and influence in order to help elevate high ambition to ensure that action on the ground responds to lived realities and aspirations. This session will convene emerging thought leaders, social media personalities and cultural voices, Indigenous and frontline communities who can reach new audiences and build change from the ground up. We will explore what would actually give these new diplomats meaningful influence over decisions, rather than another platform on the sidelines?
