#ImagineFor1Minute

The Global Commons Alliance has helped produce a remarkable short film released today for the UN General Assembly’s 75th anniversary.

The film, #ImagineFor1Minute lasts just a minute but combines the voices of the of the most trusted humans on the planet; the United Nations Secretary General António Guterres, Greta Thunberg, Hindu “hugging saint” Amma, the Pope, Nobel Laureate Dr. Mario Molina, climate champion Christina Figueres, and an incredible group of influential people including top footballer Paulo Dybala, F1 champion Nico Rosberg, All Blacks’ legend Dan Carter and model Arizona Muse.

The film is a product of a pandemic with contributors sending their recordings to the producers by email and the hundreds of images used have been crowd-sourced from around the world with the help of Avaaz.

“The directors Tom Mustill and Alex Kiehl came to us with this idea for a short film that kind of works as a meditation, you watch it with your eyes shut or open,” said Owen Gaffney, director of communications for the Global Commons Alliance.

“We immediately thought, “we have to do this”. The message is essentially we all need to reconnect with our global commons – the natural world that allows us to thrive. But it is also a message of solidarity and community as we travel on this planet together.”

“It’s a tiny film with a big idea.”

Made by Gripping Films, the film is independent and not linked to a campaign – it’s a tool to be used to engage people with visualising a better future, whatever that means for them, and then to talk about it.

The production team produced the award-winning Nature Now, the 2019 viral film with Greta Thunberg and George Monbiot with 70 million+ views and two Webby Awards.

It’s been scored by legendary composer Max Cooper (in binaural sound) and animated by award-winning experimental filmmakers / artists the McGloughlin brothers.

The film will be given away free under a Creative Commons license in the ten most spoken languages to anyone who could find it useful. It has been produced to be shared and viewed across the world on any social platform, as a Whatsapp meme, as a way of bringing people together to respond to the joint crises we face, at a time of deep division.
